USD 507 is served by an excellent Board of Education. These fine folks are constantly seeking ways to serve our students more effectively. Their most recent effort includes initiating a clothing exchange program, which will be directed by the Satanta PTO.
Donated items will be available at the Satanta Back-to-School Bash, which has been scheduled for Saturday, August 19. Donated clothing, etc. is being accepted at Satanta Elementary during the Summer Lunch Hour, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Arrangements for drop-offs at other times can be made as well. Please let me know if I can help!
High-need items include athletic shoes (football, volleyball, track) as well as athletic clothing and other goods (including knee pads, softball pants, running shorts, etc.). There is also a need for Satanta gear such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies. Donations of coats and jackets and other winter wear are always appreciated. Backpacks are another need.
Essentially, this is intended to be a community hand-me-down event with no money changing hands. However, if money is something that you can offer, we have several programs that need your support:
Our SPEAR program provides student athletes with shoes and other athletic gear with the purpose of ensuring that no student decides not to participate due to a lack of equipment.
Our Care Closet program is a student-led program that provides food support for students experiencing hunger.
Our TRIBE program provides positive behavioral incentives with donors receiving a small incentive themselves for their donation. Information on how to become a TRIBE supporter will be available by August 1.
Finally, our school-supply campaign (a long-standing Satanta tradition) is also an ongoing project. You can support this project by joining the Satanta PTO for lunch at the Fair on Friday, July 28. La Popular will be catering the event with enchiladas on the menu. The cost will be $10 per plate.
Financial support for any of these projects can be sent directly to me at PO Box 74, Satanta, KS 67870 or to Satanta High School at PO Box 69. For your convenience, all checks can be made out to FOKS, the original name of Satanta PTO, which stands for “For Our Kids Sake,” a perfect moniker for this project!
Now, perhaps more than ever, local children need our support! Please consider giving if you can.
On, Satanta!
