SHS Yearbook Visits Boston

Five Satanta Yearbook Staff members traveled to Boston, MA to attend the 2023 JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention from November 1-4. This biannual event brought together a staggering 4,462 attendees, the largest convention post pandemic.

The convention serves as a premier gathering for journalism students and instructors, offering a dynamic range of over 200 workshops, seminars, networking opportunities, and competitions. Participants from across the nation, with several international schools in attendance as well, convened to explore emerging trends, enhance journalism and photojournalism skills, explore new design trends, and enhance leadership skills.

Some of the sessions Satanta students attended taught them how to better market their yearbook publication, how to work with different photography lenses, manual camera settings, and design techniques. Students also met with a professional photographer during a Break with a Pro small group session and learned about being a freelance photographer for the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and Boston Bruins.

While not in conference sessions, students learned the rich history of Boston on a Duck Tour, and on tours of Boston Public Library and Fenway Park. Students also learned life skills such as how to navigate airports and airplanes, taxis, a boat, a train, and hotel and dinner reservations.
